Recently, the completion ceremony for the Mojo Dry Port expansion project in Ethiopia was held, marking the official commissioning of Rail-Mounted Container Gantry Cranes (RMG) and Rubber-Tyred Container Gantry Cranes (RTG). This is the first time Ethiopia has introduced a complete set of container yard lifting equipment.

The project delivered a total of 2 rail-mounted container gantry cranes and 3 rubber-tyred container gantry cranes. The equipment was commissioned in tandem with the Mojo Dry Port expansion, directly handling the transfer operations between railway arriving/departing containers and yard storage containers. This addresses the gap in rail-to-yard connectivity, improving the efficiency of import and export cargo collection and distribution as well as customs clearance turnover.

Mojo Dry Port is Ethiopia’s largest inland port, handling the warehousing and transshipment of most of the country’s import and export goods. Following the expansion and modernization, the port will further unlock the transport capacity of the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway trunk line, reduce inland transshipment costs, and drive industrial development and employment growth along the route and in the surrounding areas of Mojo.

The commissioning of this equipment will provide strong support for the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway prosperity belt and Ethiopia’s logistics system development, demonstrating high-quality delivery and enhancing the reputation of Chinese manufacturing.
